The Hunt for 400 Inch Bull Elk

This video series was filmed 11 years ago which is kind of hard to believe.  I had a great time enjoying God's creation and getting to hear elk scream their guts out.  This is a six part video series and a blast from the past!  The bull I ended up harvesting was a 7X7 that grossed scored over 427 as a typical with a 13 inch broken G6.  He had 70 inches of mass and is truly a bull of many lifetimes.  Even with the broken point he net scored over 404 typical.  This hunt took place in the fall of 2005 on the San Carlos Indian Reservation.  It is a especially wild and beautiful place.  My guide Mark Stevens was a pleasure to be around and my wife Jeanne got to witness some great elk country.

Climbing Arrow Ranch Elk Hunt 2014 with Jason Hairston of KUIU

I had the pleasure of tagging along with KUIU President Jason Hairston on his archery elk hunt in Montana this September.  This is the professionally edited version of our hunt.  I brought my video camera and filmed most of the hunt.  Great time with Jason and guides Jack Anderson and Cody Wetmore.  The credits list me as a guide although I was just there as a friend and video guy.  The laughs on this hunt were plentiful.

Montana Elk Hunt with KUIU Founder Jason Hairston

I had the pleasure of getting invited to tag along on a great elk hunt in Montana with KUIU Founder and President Jason Hairston.  For me it was a no brainer because I had already had plans to miss this Arizona elk season due to our responsibilities with the Arizona Auction Desert Sheep Tag.  It turned out to be 5 days of elk hunting heaven and Jason harvested a really nice bull with his bow.  Due to an injury Jason used his Matthews compound instead of his stick bow.  It is always nice to share a hunt with Jason who is passionate about hunting and also just as passionate about making the finest ultra lightweight hunting gear on the market today.  If you aren't using KUIU gear you are missing out!  I would like to thank Jack Anderson and Cody Wetmore for the great time!  I have been uploading the video sequences of Jason's hunt on the Jay Scott Outdoors facebook page and on our You Tube channel.  I have some good photo updates on the progression of our sheep scouting that will be coming soon in some blog posts.  I have been getting reports on the Arizona Elk rut and it seems that it has been a very lackluster rut so far.  Antler growth is down and the cows seem to not be cycling like normal.  Add extreme rains from the hurricane last week it makes for some tough hunting.   Hopefully the last 4 days will heat up for the guys in the field.  One more thing, My nephew, Jay set me up on Instagram and I have been adding quite a bit of content on there so come find it at #jayscottoutdoors

Lori Benson Unit 9 Muzzleloader Hunt with Colburn and Scott Outfitters

I met Craig Benson while helping a friend for a day in Unit 3B in 2008.  His wife Lori drew the tag for Unit 9 muzzleloader this year.  They decided to hunt with Darr and I and we had a great time looking for a bull for her to harvest.  Lori and Craig are two of the nicest and funnest people that you could ever expect to hunt with.  Lori harvested a beautiful 6X6 on the sixth evening of the hunt.  Congrats to Lori, Craig and their son Hunter!  The wildflowers were awesome this year in Unit 9 and made for some good photos.  Lori's hunt will be featured on Cabelas Out West in two weeks.
