Turkey Hunt Pics with Joe Slaton

Here are the pics from our hunt this weekend.  Joe and I had a great time with our buddies Glenn and Tyler Hall.  Tyler actually called and said they got a real nice bird this morning.  Darr and I are off to hunt Gould's in the morning.  Should be a good hunt despite the forecast for high winds.  MotherLode turkey calls rock!

Tyler's 2013 CA Turkey Hunt with Jay Scott Outdoors

Check out this awesome hunt with friends Brian and Tyler Davis of Fowl Play Taxidermy.  This is Tyler's first turkey.  My nephews and I have had some great hunts with Craig and Ronell over the years.


Both Tyler and Will's hunts were featured on Cabelas Spring Thunders weekly show.  Their hunts are at about the 9:15 mark.  The host of the show, Aaron Warbritton, is doing a great job with the series.

Will's 2013 California Turkey Hunt

Check out my nephew Will's 2013 California turkey hunt.  Will showed great poise letting me get some footage of this good looking bird as he struts up to the Dave Smith Decoys.  Also, I am putting a APB out for a Arizona Unit 9 archery elk tag holder to guide.  I guess I got a little snobby and turned down many other guiding opportunities in other units hoping for the prized jewel of elk tags in Unit 9.  I am available to guide on the archery elk hunt!

We spotted this bird after Will and Jay got their birds and had to walk up the canyon to where he was hanging. CA Turkey Hunt Video Part 1

This is my nephew Jay Pyburn's turkey hunt.  Jay and Will actually got two birds in the same setup about thirty minutes apart.  After Jay shoots one gobbler his buddy hangs around and Will trys to repostion to get a shot.  It didnt work out but we ended up calling in another three gobblers from a distance ridge.  Both birds were harvested without moving from our original setup!  I will be posting part II and III of our California turkey hunt soon!  Turkey hunting is great of fun and a constant reminder to take a kid hunting or fishing!  More at JayScottOutdoors You Tube and Colburn and Scott Outfitters

2012 California Turkey Hunt Pics I

I just happen to have the coolest nephews in the world!  We had another great hunt in California with our friends Craig and Ronell.  We split up on Friday night to roost some birds.  I took Jay and Will and we roosted two gobblers down in a canyon in a black oak tree above a small grassy flat near a small creek.  I was able to watch them fly up in the tree and marked the location well.  We got back to camp and Craig and his son-in-law, Brian, had 8 gobblers roosted in one sycamore tree above a small creek!!  Needless to say the two we roosted got a free pass the next morning.  We had a great morning and went 3 for 3 on nice California Rio Grande Turkeys.  I absolutely love my Motherlode Turkey calls even though I am not where I want to be as a turkey caller yet.  We captured the hunts on video from two camera angles and they turned out really nice.  I am going to post the pictures in two segments since there are so many!  Looking forward to the full schedule of turkey hunts coming up in the next 30 days.  Merriams and Goulds madness begins.  Gobble Gobble....................
