Fly Fishing in Colorado

The record snowfall in the Eagle County area has definitely made the runoff huge this year. The good news is that the rivers should fish really well into fall this year. The Roaring Fork, Eagle and Colorado rivers had huge amounts of runoff this year. The Eagle should be floatable into mid August. Jeanne and I caught some nice fish this summer but because of the high runoff did not experience the spectacular dry fly fishing we are used to this time of year. We had to leave on August 1st and head back to the Valley of the Sun. I am sure it is a cool 112 back home in Scottsdale. We fished with Janis Putelis of Alpine River Outfitters, Pete Mott of Trouttrickers and Mike Shook of Alpine Angling Carbondale. We had lots of great trips and adventures floating on the three rivers this summer. The longest fish of the trip was a rainbow that measured 23.5 inches. The fattest fish was a 22 inch Brown that needed to go on a diet. All three of our guides put up with lots of tangles and lost flies from the Scott twosome. Jeanne had one day when she landed over 25 fish in one day. She was on fire and smoked me that day. Nice job Jeanne!! Lots of fun stories, jokes and pranks were the norm for our trips. We look forward to next summer season with great anticipation!
