Climbing Arrow Ranch Elk Hunt 2014 with Jason Hairston of KUIU

I had the pleasure of tagging along with KUIU President Jason Hairston on his archery elk hunt in Montana this September.  This is the professionally edited version of our hunt.  I brought my video camera and filmed most of the hunt.  Great time with Jason and guides Jack Anderson and Cody Wetmore.  The credits list me as a guide although I was just there as a friend and video guy.  The laughs on this hunt were plentiful.

Montana Elk Hunt with KUIU Founder Jason Hairston

I had the pleasure of getting invited to tag along on a great elk hunt in Montana with KUIU Founder and President Jason Hairston.  For me it was a no brainer because I had already had plans to miss this Arizona elk season due to our responsibilities with the Arizona Auction Desert Sheep Tag.  It turned out to be 5 days of elk hunting heaven and Jason harvested a really nice bull with his bow.  Due to an injury Jason used his Matthews compound instead of his stick bow.  It is always nice to share a hunt with Jason who is passionate about hunting and also just as passionate about making the finest ultra lightweight hunting gear on the market today.  If you aren't using KUIU gear you are missing out!  I would like to thank Jack Anderson and Cody Wetmore for the great time!  I have been uploading the video sequences of Jason's hunt on the Jay Scott Outdoors facebook page and on our You Tube channel.  I have some good photo updates on the progression of our sheep scouting that will be coming soon in some blog posts.  I have been getting reports on the Arizona Elk rut and it seems that it has been a very lackluster rut so far.  Antler growth is down and the cows seem to not be cycling like normal.  Add extreme rains from the hurricane last week it makes for some tough hunting.   Hopefully the last 4 days will heat up for the guys in the field.  One more thing, My nephew, Jay set me up on Instagram and I have been adding quite a bit of content on there so come find it at #jayscottoutdoors

That is the legendary call manufacturer Will Primos who came out to offer his congratulations to Jason on a fine bull.  Will and his wife Mary were an absolute pleasure to share camp with.

KUIU Ultra 6000 Pack

By Darr Colburn

I got my new KUIU Ultra 6000 pack in the mail the other day and ripped open the box like a kid at Christmas.  I put the pack on and was immediately impressed.  I can honestly say this is the first pack I have ever put on that I felt fit me perfectly.  The frame seems to be a little narrower and the shoulder straps and hip belt both fit and rode where they should.  The second thing that blew me away was the weight of the pack.  The Ultra 6000 weighs a mere 3 lbs 9 ounces.  I like the new clips they put on the straps.  I had the Ultra 6000 out the other day while scouting for sheep and it worked great.  I can tell you that this pack will be my go to pack for this season.  The size and weight of the Ultra 6000 make it feel like a small day pack.  KUIU hit a home run in my opinion with the new Ultra series of packs.  I ordered the bow holder, rifle holder and the hydration bag holder along with my pack.  This pack is priced right at $350.

Small light frame along with padded shoulder and hip straps.

New KUIU Mountain Star Tent

Darr Colburn

Check out yet another great product from the guys at KUIU.  These guys keep adding to the line.  I am totally sold on this company, the people behind it and the products they put out.  You will not find better stuff in my opinion.  I can't wait to get one of these tents.  I think it will be perfect for a back country AZ coues deer hunt!

SCI Convention Photos I

I went up to the SCI Convention on Thursday and Friday in Las Vegas.  It was great to see some old friends and make some new ones.  Sometimes I forget how many hunters we have in this country and its nice to see people booking hunts and enjoying themselves.  The KUIU guys and the Outdoorsmans both had booths and lots of interest from patrons.  The new KUIU Sleeping bags are awesome looking and I can't wait to try one out!

Jason Hairston's Mexico Coues Deer Hunt Photos with Colburn and Scott Outfitters

It was a great pleasure to Coues deer hunt in Mexico with KUIU's President and Founder, Jason Hairston.  After getting to spend all week with him, I quickly realized that his passion for his business of creating Ultralight hunting gear is unparalleled.  Jason was up for anything when it came to searching for his deer and we covered lots of country until we finally found the buck that he harvested.  Nate Simmons, of Western Hunter TV captured the whole hunt on video.  It was exciting to hear of all of the new products in the pipeline and all that goes into each piece of KUIU gear.  The technology, breakthrough fabrics and Jason's passion are what set KUIU apart from all of the others.
