2010 RMEF World Championship Elk Calling Contest

I had the priviledge of being asked to be one of the judges for the 2010 World Championship elk calling contest.  It was my first trip to Reno and my second trip to a RMEF National Convention.  The competition was very good and the callers came to play for sure.  There were six competitors in the  finals for the pro division, most of whom were former world champions.  The point spread was very tight and the competition was fierce.  Joel Turner from Eatonville WA was the winner by way of call off with former World champion and owner of Buglin Bull Game Calls, Rockie Jacobsen.

Here is the Scoreboard for the Pros

I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas Diesing, who is a 19 year old college student and 2010 Mens Division World Champion.  He happened to be on my same flight home and we chatted quite a bit.  Turns out he has won seven world championships including titles in the pee wee division, voice division and the mens division.

2010 Judges, I am the one second from the left

I would like to point out someone in the Voice division that had the most realistic cow call I have ever heard.  Her name is Hannah Uhl.  She has an incredible sounding cow call.

ESPN outdoors did a live feed of the contest and I am hopefully going to get some of the footage for your guys to hear.  Click on these links to read a few more articles on the 2010 World Championship Elk calling contest click here 1, 2.

Special Thanks to Todd Brooks for taking photos during the competition!  Below is some footage that was posted by Bob Looney of the live feed from ESPN.
