Thingamabobber Review
I am a nymph fisherman at heart and I absolutely love the Thingamabobber which is made by Westwater Products. These awesome little strike indicators come in three sizes 1/2", 3/4", and 1". They come in lots of colors such as pink, yellow, white, and orange. In the first picture below you will see some custom ones done by Janis Putelis. In high water, I don't think color matters or design for that matter but when the water gets clear and low I would imagine white would be best as to try not to spook fish. I black sharpie might even come in handy to paint the thingamabobber to match a floating stick or leaf. The thing floats extremely well, it is very sensitive to the strike and seems to cast as well as any indicator. There are several ways to connect to the leader but he most sensitive way is to connect the leader about 20 inches from the end of our flyline to the loop and then connect your tippet to the loop as well down to your weight and flies. I haven't tried this yet but have heard of some guys using the smallest 1/2" incher between two dry flies and said it keeps both flies floating well. If you haven't tried this product you are missing out! Thingamabobber gets a big thumbs up in my book.

High Country Hiking
The wildflowers are awesome in the high country this season! We have been doing alot of high country hiking which is helping me get ready for the fall hunting season which is coming up quickly. The waterfall in the photos is Booth Creek Falls. We also see lots of Marmots or "whistle pigs" on our hikes.

Roaring Fork Fun
We fished with Shook today on the Roaring Fork and had lots of fun. We actually talked Shook into wearing a helmet cam but it did not turn out exactly liked planned. The movie Blair Witch project comes to mind! We caught lots of nice browns and rainbows from 10-18 inches.

Mount of the Holy Cross
We set out on a hike this morning to get a look at Mount of the Holy Cross (14,051 ft). We climbed 1580 feet to a great spot where we could see the Holy Cross and the Holy Cross ridge. We were at about 11,900 feet and the view was spectacular!

Jani's Backcountry Journal
My friend and flyfishing guide, Janis Putelis, from Colorado is going to do a Backcountry Journal from the alpine meadows and aspen pockets of Central Colorado. He is a great elk hunter/guide, flyfishing guide, backcountry expert and and a great guy. I look forward to his periodic journal of his 2009 Archery elk adventure. I have already featured some of his great elk pics on this blog. Enjoy!

Eagle River 7-13-09 Part 1
We had a great day on the Eagle with Janis Putelis of Alpine River Outfitters. The water was at about 600 cfs. The day started off sunny and then had a small rain shower. It was a typical Colorado day. The fishing was excellent and the dryfly fishing was on from start to finish. Jeanne fished dries all day and I switched back and forth. We caught some beautiful fish! Janis and Mike Shook both fish with Scott Fly rods, I was curious so have been fishing the heck out of them. I have to say I am quite impressed with the G2 Scott Rod. I have always fished with Sage but this G2 is Sweeeeeet!
