Fore!
I think I will stick with hunting and fishing! I played golf with Kenny Perry this last week and literally put people lives in jeopardy including my own. Its not safe to be on the same golf course while I am taking violent cracks at the golf ball. It makes for some funny stories though. It is hard to believe that a game that used to be nice to me is now extremely naughty. It was a fun day playing with the defending Phx Open champ, Jim Clifford and my Dad at the TPC of Scottsdale. Dad actually birdied 16 which was cool. Golf has now become a contact sport for me and requires pads and lots of advil. Here is a picture on the 16th hole at the TPC.
No emails about my golf swing!
There is not a more admirable humble pro golfer than Kenny Perry. He has not changed a bit in the 20 plus years that I have known him. He has had an amazing career earning over 30 million on the PGA tour (8th Career Money List) and still remains a down home guy.
We had fun at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. In the top photo is Kenny, Justin (Kenny's son), driver Justin Humpheys and NHRA legend Bob Glidden.
Kenny was checking out Larry Morgan's drag car.

True class shows itself thru defeat
I am a huge Kenny Perry fan and I was so proud of Kenny on the final Sunday at the Masters. Yes he lost the tournament but it was the way he lost that impressed me so much. Most people would have been feeling sorry for themselves and crying the blues but no Mr. Kenny Perry accepted the loss and gave credit to the Argentinian Angel Cabrerra. No doubt KP wanted to win as bad as anyone but he did not allow his defeat in front of the world get in the way of being the true gentlemen and sportsman that he is. All I can say is job well done and go get em' this week. KP your display of grace and class was outstanding and you are a true champion to all of your fans. Check out this clip....

Kenny Perry wins the FBR Open
Kenny Perry has been a guest at my parents house every year since I was about 14 years old during the Phoenix Open. We have watched him have many good finishes over the years but this year it was different. He won the tournament in a three hole playoff with Charley Hoffman. It was so exciting to see him finally conquer the TPC of Scottsdale. The week started off with an event that was alot of fun at the Celebrity Theatre. The night included Stan Utley, Betsy King, Kenny Perry and JB Holmes, all of whom are star golfers. They shared some insight to their golf game as well as their relationship with Jesus. Christian music star Paul Coleman did some great songs to get the crowd pumped up and then a great message from Dr. David Cook. David has written a great little book that I recommend to all. It is called "Golf's Sacred Journey". It can be viewed at http://www.linksofutopia.com/. Great job KP and I look forward to watching you have another great year. We topped the day off with a SuperBowl party after the golf tournament. Cards looked good but fell just short!!

2008 Ryder Cup
Jeanne and I took a few days off from elk hunting to go to the 2008 Ryder Cup in Louisville, KY. Our longtime friend, Kenny Perry, had qualified for his second Ryder Cup. Kenny courageously set his goal this year to make the Ryder Cup team. At 48 years old most people did not give him a chance at the beginning of the season. Well he proved them all wrong and won three tournaments including the Memorial which is hosted by Jack Nicklaus at Murifield Village. Kenny wanted to play in his home state of Kentucky at Valhalla where the Ryder Cup was being hosted. Well play he did! He valiantly carried the USA to victory. He won his singles match against the young and strapping Henrik Stenson of Sweden on Sunday. It was exciting to watch as the veteran Kenny made 7 birdies to beat Stenson 3 and 2. Kenny has been a fixture in our family for 22 years. He has stayed at my parents house for 22 years while playing in the Phoenix Open. When I was 13 he allowed me to ride to the golf course with him and follow him around like a puppy dog. He could have easily said that he was too busy but he never did. He has shown through the years that he is a great man. His deep rooted faith in Jesus is clearly evident in his everyday life. It was awesome watching the Kentucky fans greet and embrace their native son. He received rowdy cheers at every hole and was followed by many friends and family. I have been to over 30 PGA tour events as a spectator and caddie including the Masters and I can honestly say the Ryder Cup was truly an experience that I will never forget. The electricity in the air is incredible and it is something I highly recommend doing for all golf fans. To Kenny Perry, I say job well done in the 2008 Ryder Cup and thanks for giving us someone to cheer on for 22 years!
