Check out the latest adventure from the weekend's California turkey hunt.  The entire hunt will be on Cabelas Spring Thunder later this month.  I had a great time with my two older nephews Jay and Will Pyburn.  We have some great video and photos from the trip.  Merriams are up next!  The DSD Decoys need to be cleaned off a bit from the beating they took..........

Let the Gobbling Begin!

My wife Jeanne loves it when these sweet little beauties need a bath in her kitchen sink.  It is one of my favorite times of year again and the festivities begin tomorrow.  I am headed to California to take my nephews Jay and Will on our annual turkey hunt.  I have been busy with real estate and I am a little behind in my preparation.  The DSD decoys love to be washed in warm water and patted down with a soft cloth.  They actually start purring every time I do it to them....................
Its on like a fat kid on a cupcake.  Gobble Gobble! Stay tuned for photos and video of the great adventure!

Look how little these little turkeys were at one time.  They sure have grown into fine young men and I am very proud of both of them.  We are going to go thru a side a beef a day with these two eating.  Should be a great time enjoy God's creation!

Spring Break Bass Fishing

By Darr Colburn
Paul Colburn and Parker Colburn with the first bass of the day.
Well its that time of year again when the desert is starting to green up and my boys are on spring break.  This means it is time to go fishing!  Parker, Paul and I decided to head to Roosevelt Lake for some bass fishing.  We stopped in Punkin Center at the Tackle Box to see what the fish were hitting.  The owner got us dialed in and showed us a couple of tricks to rigging up.  We got on the water a little after 7am.  The temperature was in the 40s and a little chilly when we started fishing.
Senko rigged wacky style with a ring to make it last longer.
We started catching fish in 5-10 feet of water.  The water was clear in parts of the lake and off colored in other parts.  We caught fish in both.  We only saw a couple of fish on their beds.  There were quite a few boats on the water.  The weather could not have been any better.  The temperature stayed nice due a little cloud cover.  We fished the Windy Hill area of the lake.  The boys took turns driving the boat.  The fishing was steady all day.  We got off the water about 6pm and headed back home.  Another great day spent in the outdoors with my boys.

Parker Colburn First Turkey

By Darr Colburn

Turkey season is right around the corner.  I am looking forward to several hunts this spring.  I have a Goulds tag in Arizona and my son Parker has a juniors tag again.  Here is the video from Parker's hunt last year.
